NIGHT SCHOOL,
Akademie des Verlernens Wiener Festwochen 2017
Night School is an evening school where thinking, learning, and teaching, depart from minoritarian, marginalised, rebellious and vulnerable positions. This small school opens its doors every week at the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum) to interfere with hegemonic
regimes of knowledge. The curriculum covers forms, bodies, methods, positions, geographies, and fantasies that contribute to a decolonialization of knowledge, or perhaps Popular Education. Based on the idea of knowledge as a praxis we do not only learn but also eat together.
Night school casts a critical and political eye over education and deals with urgent questions of the present. Night School combines learning and unlearning and desire. It will not cease to talk about normalization, marginalization, discrimination, or seeing through dominant thinking and acting, never forgetting that school is as much a place of perpetuation as it is of social change.
Night School was held at the Volkskundemuseum Wien on Laudongasse 19, 1080 Wien from March 13- June 12, 2017 commissioned under the framework of the Akademie des Verlernes, Wiener Festwochen 2017.
